Recently, I’ve been listening to GODSPEED by Camila Cabello on repeat. It’s a catchy song yet has such depth with emotions through lyric content. I like how the song is catchy yet has a poetic tone. GODSPEED has short lines yet they sound wonderful through her vocal performance. I think the pattern of repetitive and rhyming is great and holds power in what story is being shared through the lyrics of the song. I have a difficult time with learning to rhyme lyrics in my songs. I want to write songs that feel genuine to the story I’m sharing without the story changing too much because of rhyming over storytelling. Songwriting is an art. I’ve only touched the surface of songwriting and I feel like it’s a real challenge to become a great songwriter. It’s interesting when I get frustrated about not knowing how to rhyme a line in a song. GODSPEED is a great example of how catchy lyrics can be a personal story without losing the listener’s attention. I aspire to be a writer that can convey a personal story through catchy yet poetic lyrics.
