I think lyrics can be as personal or as general as the writer is wanting them to be. Writing from a personal perspective can allow an audience to relate to the writer’s own experiences. Songwriting from a general perspective can be a good thing as well. I think a songwriter can write as personal or as general as they’re wanting to. It matters to write lyrics that matter to you and those lyrics speak to you as an artist.
