I think about writing songs and how songwriting can be cathartic and even therapeutic for a writer. It’s a healing experience to write something personal and allow those lyrics to help you heal from past experiences, trauma, memories, and pain. I wrote a song called Notes To My Younger Self. I think it’s my favorite song I’ve written. It’s not organized in a traditional song format. It’s a song full of thoughts that made me feel like I was sharing a real piece of my life with listeners. I wanted my song to be personal and allow those lyrics to heal me from my past trauma. I wanted this song to feel like a warm hug from a supportive friend. I wanted this song to help someone struggling with self harm to feel like they’re not alone. I don’t think it’s my most well written song. Notes To My Younger Self isn’t a song that rhymes and it doesn’t have catchy lyrics. This song has a heartfelt message to share. I’m happy Notes To My Younger Self is out in the world helping people feel less alone.
